Killeen Independent School District Office of Communications May 12, 2026 OFFICIAL DISTRICT LEADERSHIP UPDATE Killeen ISD confirms that Superintendent Walter Reed was involved in a shooting incident earlier today, May 12, 2026. District officials continue to cooperate fully with local law enforcement authorities as the investigation remains active and ongoing. In response to the incident and to ensure continuity of district operations, the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees convened in emergency session and officially appointed Jennifer Warren as Interim Superintendent of Killeen ISD effective immediately. Warren brings district leadership experience and a strong commitment to maintaining stability, supporting campus operations, and ensuring uninterrupted educational services for students and families across the district. “The Board acted swiftly to ensure strong leadership remains in place during this difficult and unexpected time,” stated the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees. “Ms. Warren has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and dedication to the success of our schools and community.” Interim Superintendent Warren will oversee all district operations while the Board evaluates long-term leadership plans and continues to monitor developments related to the ongoing investigation. All Killeen ISD campuses and district facilities remain fully operational under normal schedules unless otherwise announced. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
